Overview

Mt. Shasta Ski Park is a hidden gem in Northern California. Unlike the crowded resorts tucked deep in the Sierras, this one sits on the slopes of Mt. Shasta itself, with the mountain towering in the background. The four lifts give access to a solid variety of terrain, reaching up toward Gray Butte. The snow quality is surprisingly good, the lifts are comfortable and not too slow, and the facilities are well-kept. For what it is; the only sizable resort in NorCal, it delivers. The one major drawback is Way Back, a long, drawn-out cat track that connects the backside lift to the main resort. It's a slog. Snowboarders will hate it, and even skiers will feel the burn. But aside from that, the resort is a great time. No overwhelming crowds, no overpriced nonsense, just a fun, well-run mountain with good snow and a laid-back atmosphere. I came in with no real expectations and left genuinely impressed. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be back.
