About
Bear Gulch is a historic, non-operational ski area in Idaho, United States. Ski operations are not active. Bear Gulch Ski Basin near Ashton in Fremont County, Idaho, was one of the state's earliest ski areas, with runs laid out by Alf Engen and opening for the 1940 season as eastern Idaho's premier resort served by trains carrying skiers toward Yellowstone. It closed about 1969 after newer resorts with longer runs drew away skiers, and the Forest Service burned the remaining building in the 1980s.
