About

Kiandra is a historic, non-operational ski area in Australia. Ski operations are not active. Kiandra in New South Wales, Australia, is regarded as the birthplace of Australian skiing, where Norwegian gold miners introduced recreational skiing in 1861 and Australia's first T-bar lift was installed on Township Hill in 1957. Organised ski operations relocated to nearby Selwyn Snowfields in 1978, and Kiandra is now an abandoned heritage ghost town and historical site, much of it damaged in the 2019-2020 bushfires.
