About
Mogamigawa (最上川スキー場) is a historic, non-operational ski area in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Ski operations are not active. Mogamigawa, opened in 1980 as the nationally managed Kokusetsu Mogamigawa ski area behind Takaya Station in Tozawa Village, northern Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, had three lifts, nine courses and night skiing, with about 510 meters of vertical. It closed in 2000, and although a 2006 agreement called for restoring the site to nature, lack of funds left abandoned buildings and lifts standing for many years afterward.
