About
Sorochany sits about 54 kilometers north of Moscow near Kurovo, on slopes above the Yakhroma River valley. Eight lifts serve 6.4 kilometers of trails across a 140 to 221 meter elevation range, most of it artificial: builders piled earth to nearly double a natural 60 meter grade. Opened in 2002, it is nicknamed the Moscow region's Switzerland, though its founder died in a car accident weeks before the opening he had planned to coincide with the Salt Lake City Olympics.
