About
Durau is a small mountain resort in Romania's Neamt County, set at roughly 800 meters on the northwest slope of the Ceahlau Massif in the Eastern Carpathians. The Poiana Soarelui slope runs 406 meters with a 35 meter vertical drop, served by a modernized double teleski (1,200 skiers per hour) plus a separate beginner tow. Durau shares its glade with a Romanian Orthodox monastery built in 1992 and a small church decorated by painter Nicolae Tonitza, making it as much a pilgrimage stop as a ski stop.
