Sex Wax Quick Humps Cool Review

The green-label Quick Humps bar is built for cool water and sits in the soft-to-medium zone. It forms chunky humps you can feel with your feet, and it is a good way to get a hard-working wax on a budget. Application is the only trick.

The Green Bar

Sex Wax Quick Humps Cool is the green-label bar in the Quick Humps line, aimed at cool water, the in-between range where a Cold bar is too soft and a Warm bar is too stiff. If you surf the shoulder seasons, this is the type of wax that lives in your bag.

Why "Quick Humps"

The name is not marketing fluff. The formula is meant to form its bumps fast, so a few strokes of the bar turn a flat deck into a gripped one. The idea is to get physical bumps for your feet rather than a sticky film that smears.

Cool is the middle path. It is a bit softer than the Warm bar, so it goes on easier. It is firmer than Cold, so the humps stand up and hold. The scent is the usual sweet coconut that people associate with Sex Wax.

Waxing It Right

Surf wax is picky about starting conditions. A clean, room-temperature deck takes wax well. If the deck is cold, the bar just skates around without sticking. A deck baked in the sun goes slick. Aim for something in between.

Use the edge of the bar to draw a cross-hatch pattern across the deck. When the base is down, rub in circles and watch the wax bead up into small tacky nodes. Press harder for taller humps, and add another layer if you want more bite.

On a Snowboard Topsheet

I used Cool on a snowboard as a stomp pad alternative, and the humps worked. The wax shed water well, which helped it resist icing over. Stepping onto the board with the back foot felt secure, and the texture felt more built into the board than a rubber pad does.

It is low profile. A small strip near the back binding is nearly invisible from a distance, and you can add layers if you want more bite. The bumps harden up once you hit the mountain, but they stay in place and give your boot tread something to grab.

Care and Cleanup

The downside is upkeep. After a heavy day or a lot of hiking, the humps flatten and pick up grime. A board stored on a roof rack can collect salt and road dirt, and the wax turns a dull grey. A plastic scraper takes the old wax off. A citrus cleaner handles the residue before you put the board away for the season.

That is more maintenance than a plastic pad needs, and you should know it going in. For most riders and surfers it is a fair trade for better grip and a cleaner look.

Where It Falls Short

Cool is not the right bar for every temperature. In cold water it feels hard and slippery, and in warm water it softens and the bumps sag. If you want a bar with very sharp, tall bumps, harder waxes do it better. And as a snowboard hack it is a maintenance job.

Some surfers also pair it with a different brand on top for a stickier finish.

Who It Is For

Buy Cool if you surf cool water through spring and fall, like a bar that goes on easily and want strong grip for the money. Skip it if you spend your year in cold water or the tropics.

Cool Versus Its Neighbors

Next to Cold, the green bar is firmer and builds taller humps. Next to Warm, it is softer, grabs better in chilly water and goes on with less effort. Surfers who bounce between a few temperatures often keep both Cool and Warm in the bag, and move between them as the season shifts. A common trick is to carry a spare bar so you can top up between sessions rather than stripping the board. That keeps the bumps fresh and the total wax cost low.

Verdict

Sex Wax Quick Humps Cool is a quiet winner. It goes on fast, bumps up nicely and grips well. You do need to lay it down properly and clean it off at season's end. Do that, and it earns its keep.
